Favourite Quotes

So I thought sharing some of my favourite quotes with you might give you a bit of insight into me.

My all time favourite person to quote from is the wonderful Oscar Wilde. I could quote him forever, but I will just share a few of my favs.

We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.

Experience is simply the name we give our mistakes.

To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.

Too many people today know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

My love of Oscar is long standing I fell in love with his wit at the age of 12. I bought the complete works around 18 and not a year passes where I do not fall in love with him all over again.

I guess one of my next big quotable people would be Neil Gaiman. My love of whom is strongest when perfectly matched with Dave Mckean. I can not describe his writing in a way that does it any justice but it fills my mind, my heart and my body whenever I sink into it.

Things need not have happened to be true. Tales and adventures are the shadow truths that will endure when mere facts are dust and ashes and forgotten.

Life - and I don't suppose I'm the first to make this comparison - is a disease: sexually transmitted, and invariably fatal.

Gods die. And when they truly die they are unmourned and unremembered. Ideas are more difficult to kill than people, but they can be killed, in the end.

I am not sure what my love of those authors or those particular quotes says about me but I am sure they tell you something. I shall end with a few more from people I find utterly wonderful.

Clive Barker
Gather experience... Look at what you should not look at. A feeling of anxiety is the sure and certain evidence that you should do this.

Irvine Welsh
By definition, you have to live until you die. Better to make that life as complete and enjoyable an experience as possible, in case death is shite, which I suspect it will be.

Terry Pratchett
In ancient times cats were worshipped as gods; they have not forgotten this.

Anne Rice
I loved words. I love to sing them and speak them and even now, I must admit, I have fallen into the joy of writing them.

Jeanette Winterson
Love demands expression. It will not stay still, stay silent, be good, be modest, be seen and not heard, no. It will break out in tongues of praise, the high note that smashes the glass and spills the liquid.

These authors have carried me through the toughest times, art carries me when I am not strong enough to keep myself going. I have loved, cried, laughed and felt so much with them. I would not be where I am or who I am without them and they shall stay forever in my deepest thoughts, shaping the things I do and where my life takes me. Which brings me to my last quote.

Chuck Palahniuk
Nothing of me is original. I am the combined effort of everybody I've ever known.
