One Hell Of A Tuesday
Petrol Bastard Live at The Peer Hat
I wish every Tuesday could be like this but I am not rock and roll enough to handle that. After life being stolen by a pandemic and illness the energy at this gig was exactly what I needed. I can't explain it to you in words and do it justice so as standard I'm going to add pictures.
Have you ever been in a room of strangers and known they were all your people?
Petrol Bastard, by Cute As Sin Photography
There is always this strange feeling at a Petrol gig, Bastard or Hoers, we are all here for something we know is bloody weird and we don't know quite how its going to go down but we are doing it together. After being locked away from everyone this couldn't have been more perfect. Although I have to admit not everyone here was a stranger as always at one of these gigs I made new friends.
Posing Pouch
I walked in just after the first band had begun and already this gig is not what I was expecting. Astronauts! Complete with crowd assisted zero gravi-tea, a floating tea pot and a cup. I love it the puns only outweighed by how good the music was. Lively and hilarious, I can't believe it was this bands debut gig. it usually takes a while longer to own a stage so well. I'm not even sure how to describe them but there was a theremin so it was definitely sci-fi, self described as space and wine themed something I didn't know I needed until now. ending on dancing in robot heads. Posing Pouch were genuinely just so fun to watch. Perfect warm up band.
Hot Pink Sewage
I saw Hot Pink Sewage a few months back and they have come on so far in terms of performance, although I enjoyed them last time they were truly on form last night. Thrash trash is the best description I can come up with for one of the most enjoyable live experiences. I love a band with props and ridiculousness and they deliver every time. At this point the night started to feel like a very niche fetish film and everyone was along for the ride. This is dancing music, filth and sweat mandatory.
Petrol Horse
Another wonderful act that I've seen before but was on perfect form last night the beautiful Petrol Hoers. Ever wanted to know what horses do for relaxation? I recommend listening to #horseproblems to find out. Electronic beats while a horse headed man yells at you, what more could you really want in the middle of a Tuesday night? For something so silly sounding the music is seriously quality. The whole crowd joins in when petrol hoers says to, so many people squatting, and screaming along. A real all together moment that could only be brought on by this magnificent animal.
The Ducks
I knew nothing about this band going in but I was certainly not expecting what we got. As with everything else this was a bit weird, aggressively jazzy punky, I don't know quite where to categorise this. The music was pretty striking though and the crowd loved it. Add to the ungenreable music a rather bizarre look on the singers face due to a rather impressive head piece and mask, plus an abstract dancer with multiple outfit changes all dramatic as hell and its an absolutely captivating performance.
Petrol Bastard
There is nothing I could say that will get across the energy of this moment. A moment only the people in that room at that exact moment will ever experience. The world is a weird place right now and that calls for some weird shit. Endorphins a flowing, finally all getting to really let loose. These two marvellous men can certainly make music, the beats are impossible not to find yourself bobbing along to even when you are utterly repulsed by the words. But its so much more than that. I don't think I have ever seen a band who can get a crowd going like them. They have worked hard over the years to make these performances an actual work of bizarre art.
When two aggressive, sweaty, shouty men yell at you to get on the floor the answer from all sane people should be no, but as you can see in the picture at the top everyone just gets down and joins in. People smile and laugh while Petrol Bastard scream in their faces and everyone loves it.
I loved this gig so much. Thank you to everyone who made it possible, I love you all dearly you bunch of perfect weirdos. I had so much fun I'm seriously tempted to do it again later in the week.
IT WAS THE BEST TUESDAY EVER!!
ReplyDeleteWe had so much fun at this gig, I couldn’t stop grinning and dancing and jumping with the occasional squatting and lying on the floor.
