Creatures of Catharsis

Creatures of Catharsis

Grace Oni Smith milking it for the audience

Creatures of Catharsis promises a night of queer delight and they didn't lie. This was the most wonderful mix of queer performers I have ever seen on one bill. The cabaret was varied and fabulous, a mix like I have never seen together yet every act got a great reception from the audience. This night had everything I feel is missing from most queer events I have been to, it was a celebration of everything queer, yet a protest against the lack of acceptance elsewhere, it offered support for all different types of queer people and it felt like a big supportive family which is pretty amazing going as I had never met most people before and am a bag of anxiety that struggles with strangers.

The night started with the gorgeous and utterly hilarious hostess, Grace who milked the audience for every bit of laughter and possibly other things. You couldn't ask for more in a hostess, charisma by the bucket load, style, attitude and well grace, she made the evening flow perfectly with hilarious intros and just generally a great entertaining presence.

Banksie

Banksie was the first performer of the evening and what a fantastic beginning. The music selected was perfect as was well every thing about this provocative awe inspiring dancer. Just the right amount of class, beauty, attitude and sauciness to get the night off to a great start.

Ella Otomewo

Then something totally different which was basically what happened with every new act. The wonderful poet Ella Otomewo whose poetry was heartfelt, meaningful and fun. A great stage presence and an absolute pleasure to watch.

Husk

Next up was Husk an amazing electropop artist, yes I love that electropop as any one who has read these reviews before probably knows. Husk were brilliant sharing their transgender experiences through music with great beats, synth notes and an amazing voice. It was great watching an artist really get into their own music on stage.

Eva Serration

Eva Serration took to the stage and I couldn't keep my eyes off them. The way they moved combined with the make up and they fully had my attention. Half human, half machine all gorgeous.

Beau Blonde and Grace Oni Smith

The first half ended with Beau the gorgeous creature who arranged this spectacular night and our hostess Grace singing their new song. Happy booty shaking times from the fabulous duo.

The Luddite Collective

Obvious bias coming up The Luddite Collective started up the second half, lively outraged and unapologetically queer as fuck Dani Graves is loud and proud while Dani Scum provides the deep dirty bass that gets the audience going. The audience reception to the track WTF was amazing and I was super proud of them both.

Joshua?

The next performer I sadly didn't catch a proper name for and can't find one on the event page, I think they are Joshua. Emotive modern dance, this dancer could make some fabulous shapes and I think the were so in their performance that I'm not sure they even knew there was an audience.
Miss Monopoly Phonic

Next we took a trip back to the 90's with Monopoly Phonic now officially my favourite spice girl. Giving us the pleasure of some of her new music.

Cheddar Gorgeous

Then the audience was enthralled by the presence of a unicorn the amazing Cheddar Gorgeous providing an intensely captivating performance.

House of Ghetto

House of ghetto took to the stage providing us with a fantastic trip through the history of Voguing. I feel all queers should know their history and this lesson was fabulous. The dancers were fantastic and I thoroughly recommend seeing one of their performances.

Violet Blonde

The night ended with the absolutely lovely Violet Blonde who got everyone on their feet and dancing, beautiful, hilarious and a crowd pleaser. The most fun end to a show I have seen in a long time.

All in all this was honestly one of the best queer nights I have been to. It was super inclusive and welcoming also it was cheap which is cool because a lot of people I know who would benefit from decent queer spaces don't have the world supply of cash. I am so going to be at the next one and dragging as many queers as I can.
